Sam's Senior Portrait Session, Seattle/Tacoma

Sam's Senior Session!

Photo tips

Photography tip: Low-Light Action
To freeze action, a camera must be able to use a fast enough shutter speed to stop the action. A fast shutter speed may be anything from 1/60 sec. all the way to 1/1,000 sec. depending on the kind of action you want to freeze.
If the camera is unable to use a fast enough shutter speed, the result is a blurred picture [which can also be quite effectively used in certain situations to depict action].
Use a higher ISO setting, e.g. ISO 400 or 800, if available, allows the camera to use a faster shutter speed.

Julia's Senior Portraits

Julia is a 2010 graduate. When she showed up for her session, my first thought was, WOW, look at those eyes. I gave her a few pointers on ways to look your best in the photographs and off we went. Without hesitation, she rocked at her session. In fact, she did so good a posing, that I learned a few things from her!! We had to keep a close eye on the sky as a black cloud was quickly moving our way. We got an hour in before we had to sprint back to our cars. What a fun session!

Jackie & Tim's Wedding - Tacoma WA

Jackie & Tim were married on October 4th, in Olympia. These 2 just melted together. I really don't mind giving my wedding couples some direction while creating their wedding portraits, but this couple didn't need any. The are adorable and were a pleasure to work with!!

Taking better action shots of your kids!

So a good friend of mine purchased a new camera this week. She is trying to get to know her camera and had a question about taking action photographs. I thought this would be a great topic for all of you since I know many have children.
Here are a few tips:
*Use a higher ISO, which you should be able to change on your camera in the menu option.
*One caution is that using a higher ISO may cause "noise". Noise is they fuzzy stuff on the image. Test your camera.
*Try photographing with a faster shutter speed, 100 or higher at 100 ISO, then move the ISO to 400, then 800. See what you get at the different ISO settings. If your camera has a "TV" Mode (shutter priority), that is where you set the shutter speed and the camera will set the aperture for you.
*Pop up your flash and try to get close to the action!
